GentooでVMware-playerを動かすことに成功

Gentoo Linuxのportageにはvmware-playerが入っているけど，これをemergeしても

  • １．vmware-config.pl実行しようとしても「/etc/init.d/vmwareをまず起動しろ」とエラーが出る．
  • ２．/etc/init.d/vmware startを実行しても「vmware-config.plをまず実行しろ」とエラーが出て，鬱になる．

結局動かなかった．


この解決方法をしらべた．

以下，手順（上記URLよりこぴぺ）

  • 1) emerge vmware-workstation
  • 2) After performing the necessary post-install stuff that emerge tells you to do, run vmware-workstation
  • 3) Create a "virtual machine" (or whatever VMWare calls it) for Windows XP
  • 4) VMware will create a whole bunch of files with extensions like vmx etc
  • 5) Unmerge vmware-workstation & remove all the stuff that emerge says it wasn't able to clear out
  • 6) Download vmware player tarball from the official site
  • 7) Create the following directories inside /etc/init.d : rc0.d rc1.d rc2.d rc3.d rc4.d rc5.d rc6.d
  • 8) Untar the vmplayer tarball and run install.pl and, when asked if you want to run config, say yes
  • 9) Place your Windows XP cd in your drive & run vmplayer
  • 10) When asked to "Open A Virtual Machine" choose the vmx file that VMWare Workstation created for you
